One win is all that separates the NC State's women's basketball team from arguably the best season in program history.

With a win vs. Dawn Staley's South Carolina team on Friday, Wes Moore and his Wolfpack will have advanced farther than any other team in the history of the program, making it all the way to the national title game. The closest NC State had come previously was in 1998, when eventual national runner-up Louisiana Tech beat the Wolfpack 84-65 in the Final Four.

Moore's team on Friday might have an even more daunting task against Staley's Gamecocks, who not only are the No. 1 overall team in the 2024 women's NCAA Tournament but also, at 36-0, looking to become the first undefeated national champion since UConn in 2015-16.

Arguably the biggest threat NC State faces on Friday is from Kamilla Cardoso, who averages nearly a double-double with a team-leading 14.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Three Gamecocks average at least 10 points per game in MiLaysia Fulwiley (11.9 ppg) and Te-Hina PaoPao (10.9 ppg), with three more players (Bree Hall, Ashlyn Watkins and Chloe Kitts) averaging over nine points per game.

That said, five members of the Wolfpack team average at least 10.4 points per game, led by Aziaha James' 16.7 ppg and followed closely by Saniya Rivers (12.7 ppg) and Mimi Collins (10.7 ppg). The Wolfpack (31-6) have also been battle-tested to this part of the season, knocking out the top two teams in their region — 2 seed Stanford and 1 seed Texas — by 10 points apiece.
